My story

Samwel is the son of Rebecca, a teenage mother who lives with her son in the Esther house. Rebeccah came to the Esther house in February 2011. She is the youngest of a family of 8 children. Her mother died when she was young, she was raised by her father. The boy she became pregnant with ran away when she told him she was pregnant with him. After giving birth, she really wanted to go back to school but had no one to look after her son. Now she lives in the teenage mother shelter where Samwel is cared for daily and she can go to school.

Why Samwel needs our help

Thanks to sponsorship, Samwel can go to school and build a hopeful future.

Samwel is supported by impact partner Esther Home

Project Held helps Esther Home through child sponsorship and small projects such as solar and the farm so that they can grow a few things themselves. Thanks to the Esther Home, the children can prepare for childbirth in peace and are helped to take care of their baby. The project in Kenya that your sponsor child is part of is called Esther Home. The project is run by Youth Apart, a ministry set up by Daniel and Marlies Hoogteijling. In the Esther Home, they take care of young teenage mothers with their children. The mission of this house is to create a healthy living environment with God's love and to offer the necessary help, such as counseling. In this way, they want to change the vulnerable lives of these teenage mothers and their children, so that they can have a positive influence in their environment. Your support provides your sponsor child with food, school and teaching materials, housing and medical care, so that he has a great future perspective in which he can realize his dream. What does a day look like: The children go to school from Monday to Friday. They get up at 6 a.m. The older children help with breakfast and also help the younger children get ready for school. The children have lunch at school and go home at 5:30 a.m., where they help with various chores, such as helping with cooking or washing the dishes. At 7 p.m. there is a communal meal, after which the children do their homework. At 9 p.m. they pray together and go back to bed. On Saturdays they get up at half past 8. After breakfast, the older children help with various chores such as laundry and cleaning. In the afternoon, homework is done and games are played. On Sundays they also get up at half past 8. After breakfast, everyone gets ready to go to church at 9 am. All children participate in Sunday school activities. At 12 o'clock the church is over and there is time for the children to play and prepare for the coming week.
