"I like playing with dolls and drawing pictures. I always play alone at home because i am the youngest child at home. I would like to become a doctor when I grow up because my mother wishes to have children with good professions to help her when she is very old. She knows she can easily be helped by her children as they help others."

My story

We are five children in our family and we stay with our mother. I have two sisters and two brothers and i am the youngest of all. We stay in a three room house constructed by our mother after our father left her. My mother tells me that my father left when she was about to give birth to me, so I have never seen my father. Our mother grows some crops like maize and beans which she sells to get money to take care of us at home. Our uncle sometimes helps her with school fees especially for my elder siblings. She also has some babana plants where we get food from. At times i miss seeing my father because my mother says he is still alive but she does not know where he is.

Why Praise needs our help

Praise was brought to UP4S a year ago by her mother. When UP4S people visited her village, she first brought ther two sisters to the secondary school where they were helped with their secodary education. When one completed level 4 and left, the mother requested that Praise also be helped to start her education at the primary school. Basing on the background of the family, she was allowed to join the school and she is being given free education and provision of some basic needs. Praise also needs support with other needs like beddings, clothings and many other basic needs while at school.

Praise is supported by impact partner UP4S

UP4S helps Ugandan orphans and underprivileged children from 3 to 18 years old by offering them a warm home and a good school education. UP4S has a primary school and a secondary school in the village of Bukomansimbi, where many of the children come from. An important starting point is that we raise the children to be young people who are proud of their own country and know how to survive here. In 2003, the UP4S foundation was founded by Sylvia Mbabazi to help underprivileged children in Uganda. Sylvia grew up in Bukomansimbi and has lived in the Netherlands since 1997. Sylvia herself was in the fortunate circumstance that she was able to get a good primary and secondary school education, but this was not the case for many of her fellow villagers. Together with a number of volunteers, it was decided to give the underprivileged children in Bukomansimbi and the surrounding area a chance at a good education. This is how the UP4S foundation (read: 'up for us', which means as much as 'stand up for us') was born.
