Mathias is supported by impact partner Ddembe
The Ddembe Foundation gives a women's group, consisting mainly of single mothers, widows and teenage mothers, the opportunity to use agricultural land for free. Ddembe offers this on Bunjjako (two hectares). This peninsula is located in Mpigi, a district in central Uganda, southwest of the capital Kampala.
Part of the proceeds of the harvest will be invested in the project. The remainder of the profit is divided equally among the members of the group. In this way, they generate their own income.
Of course, making agricultural land available is not enough for Ddembe's target group. For example, seeds, agricultural implements, a water tank and an irrigation system are needed. Through fundraising activities, Ddembe raises money to finance such necessities. Such activities take place in the Netherlands, such as the annual Uganda Day in Duiven, catering services, the sale of African products at markets and the provision of workshops and guest lectures at cultural centres, healthcare institutions and schools. The money raised will be spent in joint consultation with the target group in Uganda.
The Ddembe Foundation therefore focuses mainly on facilitating agricultural activities. In addition, Ddembe supports initiatives in the field of health care and education on an occasional level.
