" Gideon dreams of walking on his own, joining school for the first time, and playing freely with other children, experiences he has not yet had due to his condition. While other children his age attend school and play together, Gideon has watched from the sidelines, longing to be part of that world. His greatest wish is to learn, make friends, and feel included like any other child. With proper medical support, mobility aids, and access to education, Gideon has the potential to grow in confidence, gain independence, and build a hopeful future. With the right support, he can finally take his first steps into school, childhood, and a life full of possibility. ๐Ÿ’›"

My story

Gideon is an 8-year-old boy from a vulnerable family in the community. Due to bilateral lower limb weakness and delayed gross motor development, he has experienced difficulty walking and balancing independently. As a result, Gideon has not been able to join school or participate in play activities with other children his age. His condition has limited his mobility and access to early learning opportunities, leaving him behind in his educational journey. Gideonโ€™s mother sought assistance from Hope for Hope CBO in her effort to enroll him in school and access medical support. Following medical assessment and counselling at Port Reitz Hospital, doctors advised that with the right support, including bilateral leg splints, regular physiotherapy, and a child walking aid, Gideon can safely attend a public school. With continued medical care and educational support, Gideon has the potential to begin school, improve his mobility, and integrate fully into learning and social activities like other children.

Why Gideon needs our help

Gideon needs support because his physical condition has prevented him from walking independently, attending school, and playing with other children his age. Without mobility aids, regular physiotherapy, and basic school requirements, he remains unable to access education and essential childhood experiences. His family is unable to meet the medical and educational costs required to support his condition. With timely assistance, Gideon can receive the mobility support and therapy he needs to strengthen his legs, gain independence, and safely join school for the first time. Support will not only help him walk and learn but will also restore his confidence, dignity, and sense of belonging. Without this help, Gideon risks continued isolation, delayed education, and limited opportunities for his future.

Gideon is supported by impact partner Hope4Hope Kenia

Project Held supports the children's center Hope4hope in Kenya by means of child sponsorship and project-based help such as a well, separate boys' girls' house and the farm where they can grow their own vegetables and keep animals. Hope4Hope is located in Mombasa, Kenya. Was officially started in 2010 for children of the village of Likoni. Due to poverty, the children could not go to school and had to work in the stone mines. Project leader Reginold Odhiambo has started a football project to activate the children and give them a goal. At the moment this has been expanded with a school project, a food project, a dance and music project, a children's centre and a youth centre. In Kenya, the difference between rich and poor is very large. For this reason, children and young people often go down the criminal path out of boredom and hopelessness, often they turn to drugs. The goal of Hope4Hope is to show the young people that there is hope and teach them to use their talents in a positive way. When they gather in a safe environment, they are encouraged to do well. It is important for young people to find and develop their talents. Bringing young people together is a good opportunity to tell them about God and show His love. Your support provides your sponsor child with food, school and teaching materials, housing and medical care, so that a great future perspective is offered in which they can realize their dreams. What a day looks like: The children go to school from Monday to Friday. They get up at 6 a.m. The older children help with breakfast and also help the younger children get ready for school. School starts at 7 a.m. They brush their teeth twice a day, which is not common in Kenya. At 08:45 they come back for breakfast which consists of bread or rice with vegetables and sometimes chicken for special occasions. Then they go back to school and come back for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Lunch consists of rice or beans with vegetables and an egg. Twice a week they get chapatti which is a delicacy in Kenya. At 16:45 the school is finished and they come back home where they participate in the football or dance project. The older children go to Boarding School. This is mandatory in Kenya. Your sponsorship contribution provides education, food and shelter.
