Building bridges, starting in Uganda

Nofam has a sister organisation: Nofam Uganda. An independent Ugandan organisation, with its own board and its own team in Kampala. Not an office of ours out there, but people who know their own country.

It is our first bridge. That it stands in Uganda is no accident.

Its own organisation, not a branch

Nofam Uganda carries our name, works on the same platform and holds to the same commitments. But the people who maintain the relationships with schools, churches and children's homes live and work in Uganda.

That is the whole point. Someone who knows daily life in Kampala or Kabale should decide what is needed there — not someone behind a desk in the Netherlands.

Why there

Because that is where our network runs deepest. We have known the Ugandan organisations we work with for years: we know how they work, they know how we work, and there are Dutch sponsors who have followed their child there for a long time.

You build a bridge where there is already a bank on both sides.

What the partnership means

  • One platform. Sponsors see their child, receive updates and photos, and know where their contribution goes — whether they came in through nofam.org or through Nofam Uganda.

  • The same child protection standards. Photos, stories and children's data are handled the same way on both sides.

  • The same openness about money. What comes in, and where it goes, can be followed.

  • Local ownership. The relationship with a Ugandan organisation belongs to Nofam Uganda. We do not need to sit in between.

Uganda is the first, not the last. We want to do this more often: organisations in other countries doing their own work, under their own board, with the platform and the commitments we built together.
